Conservation Biology

Course 1120-400

Reflection:

The Land Ethic, from A Sand County Almanac”, by Aldo Leopold.

This assignment was a reflection of the essay written by Leopold on the evolution of ethics to include land, plants and animals as part of a biotic community that humans are a part of and not conquerors of.

My own conservation philosophy follows along with Leopold’s own beliefs, however I found after this assignment a disconnection of what I believe and the actions I have taken.  In practice I have a respect for our environment and a desire to protect it believing there must be a balance between man and nature as we are all part of the same community.  I feel a need to become more involved in the decision making and actions the affect my community and the environment.

The writings of Aldo Leopold, I believe should be required reading for a general start to ecological education and conservation.
